How to Care for Your Wood Wick Candle

We chose wood wicks because they are unique and offer a superior user experience than traditional cotton wicks.  Plus, we love to hear that crackle while burning our lovely scented candle.  It’s like having a mini fireplace!

Because they are different than traditional wicks, there is a bit of a learning curve, but it’s worth the effort.  Here are some tips on how to care for your brand new wood wick candle:

1.) Lighting wood wicks for the first time takes a little bit of patience, but it’s worth it!  The easiest way to do so is to tilt your candle slightly so the flame can reach the entire width of the wick.  Hold the flame over the wick for at 10 to 15 seconds.  Don’t worry if the flame extinguishes after your first try.  Sometimes it can take a few attempts to get the wick going.  However, after the first burn, the wick becomes much easier to light!

2.) The first burn is the most important burn.  Make time for it.  Allow your wax pool to reach the edge of your container.  It can take 2-3 hours for this to occur depending on the size of your candle.

3.) Keep your candle away from any drafts, pets, children or any flammable objects.  Always make sure the candle is attended!

4.) Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.  Always burn on a heat-resistant and flat surface!

5.) You shouldn’t have to trim your wick for your first burn (we’ve done that for you), but just like cotton wicks, wood wicks should be trimmed after each use to ensure a proper burn.  If your candle won’t stay lit or if you are noticing your candle isn’t burning properly, trim your wick.  A standard wick trimmer can be used.  If you are in a pinch, you can use an old nail trimmer or even your fingers.
